The Naval Surface Warfare Analysis Group (NSWAG) combines fleet experience, subject matter expertise, accomplished analysts, and modeling and simulation tools to provide engineering-based operations research/systems analysis of multi-mission Navy surface combatant programs, systems, forces, and capabilities.
Mission area analysis:
- Anti-ship missile defense (ASMD) and anti-air warfare (AAW).
- Global, regional, and terminal ballistic missile defense (BMD).
- Naval land attack systems, battle management, command, and control.
- International surface ship anti-submarine warfare (ASW).
Assessments of Navy surface force structures in air and missile defense:
- Operational value of advanced shipboard radars and missiles.
- TAMD and BMD in regional campaign analysis.
- Navy global BMD in Homeland Defense’s Initial Defensive Operations (IDO).
Modeling and simulation:
- Modeling and deterministic simulation of ASMD/AAW and BMD.
- Force Level Effectiveness Analysis Tool (FLEAT) series: BMD, AAW, and SBT.
Concept development in multi-mission surface warfare:
- Concepts of operations (CONOPS) for surface warfare forces and capabilities.
- Navy contributions to MDA’s projected Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS).
- Spiral development of Littoral Combat Ships (LCS).
- Roles and missions of surface combatant family of ships, including possible CG(X).
