Fellow, Operations Analysis

Shane Vigil is a Fellow in Operations Analysis at SPA, where he brings a unique blend of operations research acumen, aerospace engineering expertise, and military leadership to advance the company’s analytic and strategic capabilities.

He has led high-impact operations research and data science initiatives for clients across the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community, with a particular focus on space mission engineering and operations. Shane has led multiple teams in delivering innovative analytics solutions, while also remaining deeply technical—personally developing models, writing code, and driving analytical rigor. His hands-on leadership contributed directly to multimillion-dollar acquisition decisions and strategic guidance for major stakeholders.

Shane’s industry experience includes senior roles at Northrop Grumman and Terran Orbital, where he led the integration of advanced aviation technologies and engineered the end-to-end architecture of complex satellite systems, from design through launch. His operations experience also includes a research fellowship at Amazon Robotics, where he developed machine learning and optimization algorithms to improve material flow across fulfillment centers during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping to overcome unprecedented challenges.

Prior to his engineering and operations career, Shane served as a U.S. Marine Corps attack helicopter pilot and technical leader, logging over 2,000 flight hours and leading both small teams and large organizations in high-tempo environments. He earned multiple commendations for operational excellence and driving digital modernization initiatives.

Shane holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, as well as a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

As the Fellow for Cost Estimation and Analysis, Christina serves as a thought leader, identifying and pursuing new ways to guide the development of SPA’s technical capabilities. One of her significant goals as a Fellow is to gain a greater understanding of the cost-adjacent work that SPA is performing company wide and understand the unique challenges that our customers are facing.

He is an active member of the Military Operations Research Society and remains engaged in the aerospace community through the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, where he serves on the Space Systems Technical Committee.
